Speaker: Joe Vetro PhD

Joe works in Nanotechnology Medicine. He is an associate professor in Pharmacuetical Sciences. And works in RNA interference therapy of cancer.
Nanotechnology is the creation of a useful device or system at the nano scale. The nano scale is very small. A drug is around 1 nanometer. Virus is a nano size. The size range of nano is talking to the size of the technology.
Pharmacotherapy is use of drugs that produce beneficial effects. Prevent, cure, stop or slow progression, or reduce or eliminate clinical symptoms.
There are many delivery systems for nano Pharmacueticals. The researchers are looking at the actual material, release mechanism, and how to get the medicine to the right area of the body.
UNMC also works with animals. Production animals and pets helps the scientist learn how nanomedicines react in a complex environment.

Thank you, Joe, for all the interesting information (and keeping it at a layman level).
