Kelly Sears , TeamMates Metro Regional Coordinator, gave an update of TeamMates at the club meeting on
the 20th.
TeamMates is one of 75 metro-area mentoring organizations and is part of the Midlands Mentoring Partnership. There are 12 agencies in this partnership, all of which subscribe to the tenets of the Elements of Effective Practice. TeamMates was created by Tom Osborne in 1991, upon the urging of wife Nancy, who challenged UNL athletes to partner with a young person. The project went state-wide in 1997 with now over 130 chapters.
Currently TeamMates is joining forces with the Empowerment Network to concentrate on 6th graders in north Omaha zip code 68111 to match mentors with black students.
