1996 first 4th grade class
90% of students are at or below poverty. About 95% are African American and about 2% are Latino. Majority are single parent households.
School is from 8-4:30. The extended hours are for homework. Many of the students go on to the Boys and Girls Club. Many times until 8:00 at night.
Summer sessions are for other activities like swimming. Camp activities include archery, hiking and other summer activities.
Funding is private. Donors support a child for 5 years. Other funds are golf tournament, foundation and private donations.
Most of these kids come in 2 grades behind. They do not serve learning disabled kids because of resources.
