Nebraska Water Management

Paul Woodward from the NRD was our Kiwanis speaker.

Much of our water resources are salt. Another 1.7% is ice. Leaving a small amount of ground water and below ground water.

Nebraska uses a disproportionately large amount of water because of our agricultural requirements. Idaho is the only other state that uses more than Nebraska.
Cooperation with all users is essential. NRD works to be prepared for drought and water availability for future generations.
NRD looks for cooperative ties for sustainable goals.

Metering use, better tracking, is a next step. The data collection allows for better management.
When corn was $7 a bushel, the resources were more strained.  With corn prices cooled off, water management is a bit easier.
Thanks, Paul, for giving us such detailed information.
