Kip’s Going Bald…

I’m shaving my head again this year to raise money for childhood cancer research on Friday, July 11, 2014 at University of Nebraska Medical Center.

My daughter, Mandy Arens, has been organizing this event for the past 4 years.  Mandy is the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with the Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Team and she sees first hand the impact cancer has on the children and their families.  This event kicks off with some of the pediatric oncology doctors having their patients shave their head as a “kick-off” to their kids cancer camp, Camp CoHoLo.  It is then following with shavees like me that raise funds to support pediatric cancer research.  It truly is a wonderful event.  Last year I raised over $875 for this cause.

Did you know that kids’ cancers are different from adult cancers? It’s true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.

Consider this staggering fact: one out of every five children diagnosed with cancer will not survive – that’s one child too many.

A little bit more about St. Baldrick’s:  Worldwide events have raised approximately $150 million, providing research grants to doctors and scientists at more than 200 institutions. These funds enable them to pursue the most promising new cures for childhood cancer, in addition to making clinical trials available to more children than ever. Since 2000, St. Baldrick’s has hosted more than 5,500 head-shaving events, shaving more than 244,000 heads in 30 countries and 50 U.S. states. To join the fun and learn more about the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, visit www.StBaldricks.org or call 888.889.BALD.  Thank you for your support.

Together, let’s Conquer Kids’ Cancer!
