Happy Birthday!

Bob turns 93 on Thursday, June 4!

Who else was born in June 1922? John McNamara (baseball), Judy Garland (actress – think Wizard of Oz and Liza Minelli’s mother), Charlie Sifford (golfer), and Bill Blass (fashion designer to Nancy Reagan). Other notables born in 1922 – Betty White, Stan Lee, Doris Day, Ava Gardner, Carl Reiner…

A few facts from 1922:

  • Warren G. Harding was president.
  • The first Reader’s Digest was published.
  • Great Britain grants Egypt independence.
  • Construction begins on Yankee Stadium.
  • Radio stations are being licensed around the country. BBC begins daily broadcasts.
  • Former Chicago Staleys play first NFL game as Chicago Bears, winning 6-0. Trivia question: Who did the Bears beat their first game?
  • Howard Carter discovers the tomb of Tutankhamen.
  • Mussolini forms government in Italy, granted dictator powers for 1 year. Hirohito crowned prince regent in Japan. Hitler is released from jail and speaks to 50,000 national-socialists in Munich.
  • Nobel prize awarded to Albert Einstein.

Happy Birthday from all your friends at Greater Omaha Kiwanis Club.

Students were asked if they would consider a career in technology. And discussed the opportunities in various fields.

Computer Science, Management Information Service, Bioinfomatics and Information Assurance are 4 pillars of study available at UNO. The IT Innovation is a new creative way to add IT to your favorite area of study.

Happy Holidays from Jack Pagel

Holiday Greetings from your newly elected president.  With one month already “in the books” I still feel as though I am still running to catch a bus – learning what the responsibilities of the office really are.   I do appreciate all the helpful advice passed along by Brian and other past presidents.  This is truly a Kiwanis club with members that bring diversity; not only in age but also in experience.

Together we are one and can accomplish great good for the children in our community and the world.  Our diversity is also evident in the quality and variety of topics of our speakers.  The list for sponsoring speakers for the entire year is filled – thank you!

With winter now upon us (what a shock) it is my sincere wish that all of you experience joy and are surrounded by those that care about you.

Warmest Holiday Wishes to all my fellow Kiwanians and your families.

Jack Pagel

Salvation Army Needs Bell Ringers!!

Vince Pille (Kiwanis – Greater Omaha),

On 12/06/2014, your kettle shift raised $336.77 for Salvation Army programs and services.
Every dollar you helped collect will fuel important services for individuals and families in crisis, through basic needs programs, disaster relief efforts, and so much more.  Visit www.givesalvationarmy.orgto read about the help available in your community.

We hope you’ll consider another shift and share the idea of bell ringing with family and friends who are looking for volunteer opportunities.  You can sign up at our website at www.RingOmaha.org, or call us at 402-898-6000.

Thank you for your gift of time to The Salvation Army.
Merry Christmas and God bless you,

Gregory A. Kadrlik
