Many of the children said at lunch their favorite was to see the 16-day-old baby giraffe.

Speaker: Nebraska Prison System

Laura’s works on Rehabilitation of Inmates prior to, and after their release. The goal is to aid in a smoother transition, and reduce the chances of returning to prison.

Laura works for UNO and is working under grants and private funding to create a new prison program for Nebraska and use across the country.

The origins of this program, from the original donor, is to pattern after the life changes of Malcom X. His change during prison and his adult life after is an inspiration for others to change their lives as well.

Women and youth prisons have other role models they learn about that stories are closer to their own.

Speaker: MS Society

Ian and Ryan came to speak about the MS Society, Nebraska Chapter.

There are over 7,000 cases of MS in Nebraska alone.

But MS is a diffucult disease to diagnose. Doctors aren’t trained in diagnosis and the symptoms can mask to other illnesses.

MS has a wide range of expressions. Pain. Loss of control of your body. Fatigue. Many women suffer from MS but it is not diagnosed.

Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are being diagnosed with MS at a higher rate than the general population. While MS is inherited, there are environmental triggers for MS.

MS Society is research based.

The MS Society in Omaha is looking for volunteers. An easy way to get involved is come walk on May 20.

See the website for more information.

Thanks,
